Scholarza (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates scholarza.com, a scholarship and opportunity discovery platform for African students. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information We Collect
Information you give us directly: when you create an account, save a scholarship, submit a scholarship or job listing, post a comment, or contact us, we collect the details you provide — such as your name, email address, and message content.
Information collected automatically: like most websites, we automatically log technical data when you visit, including your IP address, browser type, device type, pages viewed, referring page, and the date and time of your visit. This is collected through cookies and similar tracking technologies, and through Google Analytics.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use cookies to keep you signed in, remember your saved scholarships and preferences, understand how visitors use the site through Google Analytics, and — where enabled — to serve relevant advertising through Google AdSense. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some site features (like staying signed in or saved scholarships) may not work correctly without them.
Advertising and Google AdSense
Scholarza may display advertisements served by Google AdSense and other third-party advertising vendors. These vendors use cookies — including the DoubleClick cookie — to serve ads to you based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the internet.
You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.
How We Use Your Information
- To operate, maintain, and improve the scholarships and tools directory
- To respond to your enquiries and support requests
- To send you scholarship deadline alerts or updates you have opted into
- To review and publish scholarship or job submissions
- To detect, prevent, and address technical issues, spam, and abuse
- To display relevant advertising that helps keep Scholarza free to use
Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited data with service providers who help us run the site (such as hosting, analytics, and advertising providers, including Google), and where required by law.
Third-Party Links
Scholarza links to external scholarship providers, universities, and application portals. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of these external sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any third-party site before submitting personal information.
Data Retention
We retain account and submission data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service, and we may retain some information longer where required for legal, security, or record-keeping purposes.
Children’s Privacy
Scholarza is intended for prospective and current students generally aged 16 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
Your Choices and Rights
You may update or delete your account information at any time through your dashboard, or by contacting us directly. Depending on your location, you may have additional rights over your personal data, including the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your information.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
