The Pan African University (PAU) Scholarships are a flagship program of the African Union Commission, offering fully funded Master’s and PhD study at one of PAU’s four continental institutes: PAUSTI (Basic Sciences, Technology & Innovation – Kenya), PAULESI (Life & Earth Sciences – Nigeria), PAUGHSS (Governance, Humanities & Social Sciences – Cameroon), and PAUWES (Water & Energy Sciences – Algeria). Since 2014, PAU has awarded over 2,500 scholarships to students from 50 African Union member states.
The 2026–2027 call has closed (applications ran 15 November – 15 December 2025). Based on PAU’s consistent yearly cycle, the next call (2027–2028 academic year) is expected to open around mid-November 2027 and close in mid-December 2027. The scholarship covers full tuition, a monthly stipend, and in some cases accommodation and travel, depending on the host institute.
Eligibility is open to citizens of African Union member states and members of the African diaspora who hold a relevant Bachelor’s degree (for Master’s applicants) or Master’s degree (for PhD applicants). PhD applicants must submit a 3–4 page research proposal. Candidates from underrepresented countries and women are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants should watch the official PAU application portal for the exact opening date of the next call.
