Australia Awards Scholarships – 2027 Intake

Full tuition + airfare + living allowance + health cover
Deadline: April 30, 2026

The Australia Awards Scholarships are among the most prestigious fully funded international scholarships offered by the Australian Government via the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). Specifically designed to support students from developing countries, including those in Africa, these awards aim to build enduring professional capacity by enabling scholars to pursue long-term undergraduate or postgraduate degree programs at participating Australian universities and TAFE institutions. Through advanced education and leadership training, scholars gain critical skills and global networks that help address development challenges in their home countries.

For the 2027 intake, applications opened on 1 February 2026 and will close on 30 April 2026 (AEST). The award typically funds full tuition fees, a return economy-class airfare, a one-off establishment allowance, contribution to living expenses, Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), and preparatory academic English support where necessary. Recipients may pursue bachelor’s or master’s degrees in areas aligned with development priorities such as governance, education, health, public policy, environmental management, agriculture, and infrastructure. Scholars must also attend an Introductory Academic Program prior to formal academic study and commit to returning to their home country for a minimum of two years after completion to apply their enhanced skills toward national development.

Eligibility generally requires applicants to be citizens of eligible developing countries, which for Africa include many nations like Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania, and others. Candidates for postgraduate studies usually need relevant work experience alongside academic credentials. The application process is highly competitive, emphasizing leadership potential, academic excellence, and a clear development impact plan.
