The Boy Who Would be Judge

The Boy Who Would Be Judge is an inspirational children’s story by Boniface Wafula Barasa, set in the rural village of Kiboochi in Kenya.

Wekesa has little: no shoes, an old school uniform, limited learning materials, and a long nine-kilometre walk to school. Yet he carries a powerful dream—to become a judge and stand for truth and justice.

When financial hardship threatens his education, Wekesa refuses to give up. He works to raise money for school, studies by firelight, and continues pursuing his dream. His determination eventually earns him success in a district essay competition, a scholarship opportunity, and a place at a national school.

The story follows Wekesa’s journey from a barefoot village schoolboy to Justice Wekesa Baraka, showing young readers that difficult circumstances do not have to define their future.
